Knowledge & support operations

The answer exists; it lives with whoever happens to know it

The problem

Company knowledge sits in thousands of files nobody can search across. The same questions get asked and re-answered by whoever happens to know, and the cost lands on the few people who do.

A general model makes this worse rather than better: it will answer a question about your business confidently and wrongly, and the answer is indistinguishable from a correct one until somebody acts on it.

What we built

AskQuo: a retrieval layer over an organisation's own documents feeding a generation step that cites what it used, with permissions enforced at retrieval so an assistant cannot summarise a document the person asking is not allowed to open.

What transfers

Permissions belong at retrieval

If access is checked when the answer is rendered, the restricted document has already been read and has already shaped the text. Redacting the citation afterwards does not unread it — and what leaks is a fluent summary with no sign that anything was withheld.

Citations are the audit trail

Answers that point back to the source passage are usually justified as a trust feature. They are also the only way a permissions failure or a retrieval failure becomes visible to the person reading, rather than to nobody.

Point it at what exists

Any system requiring a documentation rewrite before it works will not be adopted, because the rewrite never happens. Ingestion has to cope with the mixed formats an organisation already has.
